"Data locality" is a fundamental concept in the context of Hadoop and its distributed file system, Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). The idea behind data locality is to minimize data movement and improve performance by processing data on the same physical node where it is stored. In a Hadoop cluster, data locality plays a crucial role in optimizing the execution of distributed data processing tasks. Here's how data locality works in Hadoop: Data Distribution in HDFS: When you store a file in HDFS, it is split into blocks, and these blocks are distributed across multiple nodes in the Hadoop cluster. The default block size is typically 128 MB or 256 MB. Processing Tasks and Data Locality: In Hadoop, processing tasks (e.g., MapReduce jobs) are executed on the nodes of the cluster. When a task needs to process a particular data block, the Hadoop scheduler tries to schedule the task on a node where the corresponding data block is stored. Optimizing for Local Data: Data locality is optimized when a task can operate on data that is already present on the local node. This minimizes the need to transfer data over the network, improving overall performance. If the task and the data are on the same node, it is referred to as "data-local." If they are on the same rack but different nodes, it is called "rack-local." Network Bandwidth Considerations: Transferring data over the network can be a significant bottleneck in distributed systems. By prioritizing data locality, Hadoop aims to reduce the amount of data transferred between nodes, thereby maximizing the utilization of network bandwidth for computation rather than data movement. Replication and Fault Tolerance: HDFS replicates data blocks across multiple nodes for fault tolerance. Even if a node fails, the data can still be accessed from other replicas. However, data locality is best achieved when the task can work with the local replica, avoiding the need to fetch data from remote nodes. Impact on Performance: The emphasis on data locality contributes to the efficiency of Hadoop clusters. When tasks operate on local data, it results in faster execution times, reduced network congestion, and better utilization of cluster resources. The data locality concept aligns with the distributed computing philosophy of bringing computation to the data, rather than moving data to computation. It is a key optimization strategy in the design of Hadoop and plays a significant role in the performance of various big data processing frameworks, including MapReduce and Apache Spark, that run on Hadoop clusters. read less

What should be the fees for Online weekend Big Data Classes. All stack Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive , Sqoop, HBase , NIFI, Kafka and others. I Charged 8K and people are still negotiating. Is this too much?
Based on experience we can demand and based on how many hours you are spending for whole course. But anyway 8K is ok. But some of the people are offering 6k. So they will ask. Show your positives compare...

Hi, currently I am working as php developer having 5 year of experience, I want to change the technology, so can any one suggest me which technology is better for me and in future also (hadoop or node with angular js).

Big Data is cake for data processing whereas Angular is for UI framework. I would recommend you to consider learning Big Data technologies.

Hadoop is a framework which has been developed for organizing and analysing big chunks of data for a business.
