Is it necessary that I should use Python in Apache spark and MapReduce? Would it be more complex if I try to bring the same functionality using Java?

You can definitely can use java as scala and java are the native languages for spark and hadoop. But using python you can do the same job with minimal coding effort .Also learning python and writing code in python is much more easier as compared to java. but ultimately choice is urs :)
