Very good. The average starting salary of Hadoop developers in the SF Bay Area is around 140K. Keep in mind that it won't be a niche skill for much longer--Gartner recently predicted that by the end of 2015, there will not be a shortage of skilled engineers in Hadoop. My advice would be to learn Hadoop, but to also keep an eye on the stream computation frameworks such as Storm. Learning Scala and Spark is a great idea too. read less
