Basically Hadoop is a framework which can process large amount of semi- structured or unstructured type of data. These data are processed in a distributed environment. These raw data to be processed are so huge that these cannot be processed using traditional data processing techniques and these type of data comes under the umbrella of Big data. So Hadoop is used in Big data. Now to pursue a career in this field it's advantageous to be from technical background like: b.e/ b.tech/ bca/ mca/ etc., and little knowledge of Java and python is advantageous. The biggest challenge is you need to have the passion for Data, you need to love data. If you do go for it swim in it else don't waste your time. Hadoop is good but it depends on your experience. If you don't know basic java, linux, shell scripting. Hadoop is not beneficial for you.
