Student reflection on teaching experience. Adult learning course on Electronic Devices, iPads, Androids at WRCCOne of the reasons I enjoyed my teaching experience so much was because of the great students I had. Lets face it, in a high school class not everyone wants to be there and it usually shows. This was definitely not true with my students. They all wanted to be there.
Just because the students were great and the teaching experience was fun, doesn't mean it was easy. Each one of my students (it still feels funny to call people my students) had a different level of experience, different uses, and different things they wanted to learn. This made it very hard to try and get everyone on the same page.
The class also required a lot of preparation. My typical lesson planning session would go something like this:
Look over my feedback sheets to decide what I was going to teach.
Run through the processes I was going to teach on my own device to see how it works and to try and identify trouble spots.
Do additional research to see if I missed any features that I would want to include.
I learned that teaching requires more than just reading notes out loud and guiding people through them. It requires reinforcement, seeking feedback, and a million other things that I had never thought of. I owe a lot to my business teacher, Ms. Cornell, who gave me an incredible amount of assistance and advice. Without her, my teaching experience wouldn't have gone nearly as well.
