A beginner can choose whichever one they would like to learn. If you are unsure you can always get an acoustic guitar first and later get an electric guitar if you want one. Electric guitars can feel easier to play.

What are some benefits of not changing your guitar strings?
Old strings (dead strings) tend to be more stable and consistent in tone. Though eventually they do get played out and won't stay in tune and lose tone. Some prefer the sound (even seasoned pros).
