It is normal in the beginning. But we can solve it. One should hold the Guitar in the correct position. Place your fingers and the position of wrist in proper way.

Hi, well I never felt any pain at the initial stage. May be I was under the right guidance. So all you need to do is, make yourself comfortable with the instrument first. Always sit still, your back bone should be errect enough while playing the guitar. Never rest your back bone. Although your guitar will be touching your chest so you can feel the instrument while playing. I guess you're resting your left hand on your lap. This brings pain to your arm. You should never rest it on your lap, reason - you can't move your wrist and fingers easily over fret board while playing. Check, how spanish guitar players sit and play guitar. Don't follow the exact pattern however it gives you an idea on how to hold it and you can avoid bringing pain to your left hand as well. I hope my way of approach and my examples help you in learning the instrument. Cheers \m/ read less
