Does wider string produce louder sound?

First of all there is no term as wider string, it's thin string and thick string in terms of there gauge. It's all about pitch. The thinnest produces high pitch sound and the thickest produces low pitch sound respective of the notes played.

The frequency of the note reduces as the diameter of the string increases So basically the wider strings are used for more depth and not louder sound
