The cell cycle has two main phases:
It is divided into three parts:
Gβ Phase (Gap 1):
The cell grows in size and makes proteins and organelles needed for functioning.
S Phase (Synthesis):
The cell copies its DNA, so that each new cell will get a full set.
Gβ Phase (Gap 2):
The cell checks the copied DNA for any mistakes and makes final preparations to divide.
It has two parts:
Mitosis: The nucleus divides.
Cytokinesis: The whole cell splits into two identical cells.
Mitosis has four stages:
Prophase: Chromosomes become visible, and the nucleus breaks down.
Metaphase: Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell.
Anaphase: The chromosomes are pulled apart to opposite sides.
Telophase: Two new nuclei form around the separated chromosomes.
After this, the cell divides, and now there are two cells ready to grow and repeat the cycle.
