Not necessarily German is required to study any subject because most of the courses are offered in english too. However, having knowledge of German (basics) will surely help in getting around the city and dealing with people.

Teacher

It depends on the course. Most of the engineering majors in Germany are in German language and you will require the language for them. In case you find a major that is in English, you will still need basic German training.
