How can I do a master’s in orthopedics or trauma in Germany? I already have a B2 certificate in the German language. Do I have to do an approbation exam? I have been practicing medicine for more than 10 years in Oman.

Glad to hear that you have completed the B2 level certification in the German language. Moreover, you have been serving as a medical practitioner for a decade. The world needs more doctors and health workers like you, especially in a situation like today, where people are being affected by the Corona Outbreak. Coming to your question, it is quite evident that you hold a bachelor’s degree in medicine, and you want to pursue your master’s in orthopaedics or trauma in Germany. Here, you need to understand that in Germany, they have a different method of assigning degrees. There is no such thing as bachelors or masters. Doctors in German appear for a general medical screening test, organised by the state government, through which they get a general degree. Then they can do a specialisation to become a ‘Facharzt’, which is more like an on-job training for them. So, you may check whether your medical degree is considered or not! Also, you may have to appear for some exams to meet their standards. Only then you will be allowed to practice in Germany or appear for other specialisation. Towards the end, it is advisable to improve your German speaking skills and get a higher level of certification than B2. read less
