I teach Tabla and have around 30 years of experience in the field. Over the course of my musical journey, I have had the opportunity to learn, perform, and teach Tabla to students at different levels. I train students in both the fundamentals and advanced aspects of Tabla playing, with a strong focus on technique, rhythm, discipline, regular practice, and developing a deeper understanding of Indian classical music. I hold a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) qualification and completed my formal music training at Prachin Kala Kendra in 1985. My formal training provided me with a strong foundation in Indian classical music and Tabla. Over the years, I have continued to develop my skills through practice, performance, teaching, and interaction with other musicians, which has helped me gain extensive practical experience in the art form. I have also been associated with All India Radio since 1993 as a B-High Grade Tabla Artist. This long-standing professional association has given me valuable exposure as a performing artist and has allowed me to remain closely connected with the professional world of Indian classical music. My experience as a performer has also influenced my teaching, as I believe students should develop not only technical skills but also confidence, musical awareness, and a good sense of rhythm. One of the significant milestones in my teaching journey has been my continuous association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London, where I have been teaching Tabla since 2023. This opportunity has allowed me to share my knowledge and experience of Indian classical music with students internationally. I consider it a meaningful contribution towards promoting and preserving the tradition of Tabla and Indian classical music among learners from different backgrounds. My teaching approach is practical, structured, and student-friendly. I begin according to the student's existing level and gradually introduce new techniques and concepts as their skills develop. For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in basic Tabla techniques, rhythm, hand positioning, and practice patterns. For more experienced students, I work towards developing their technical control, understanding of rhythm, and ability to perform more advanced compositions. Regular practice is an important part of my teaching methodology. I encourage students to practise consistently and pay close attention to accuracy, rhythm, technique, and discipline. My classes are interactive, and I encourage students to ask questions and clarify their difficulties. I also adjust the pace and content of the lessons according to the student's learning ability so that they can progress steadily without feeling overwhelmed. I offer both online and offline Tabla classes and work with students at different stages of their musical journey.
