As a tutor teaching Legal Studies and Political Science, my experience was one of both challenge and growth, both for myself and my students. I enjoyed helping students navigate complex legal concepts and political theories, breaking them down into more digestible parts while encouraging critical thinking. In Legal Studies, I guided students through understanding the intricacies of legal systems, concepts of justice, and the rights and responsibilities of individuals within the law. This involved not only exploring the theoretical aspects but also applying them to real-world scenarios. Teaching case law, legislative processes, and constitutional principles required a balance between making legal theory engaging and providing practical insights into how these concepts play out in society. In Political Science, I helped students grasp the foundational theories behind different political ideologies, systems of government, and international relations. I encouraged them to analyze the shifting dynamics in political systems and how history and power structures shape governance today. We delved into issues like democracy, authoritarianism, political participation, and policy-making, and I found it fulfilling when students could connect these concepts to current global events. I saw my role as helping students build strong analytical and argumentative skills, which are key in both fields. Guiding them through essay writing, research projects, and exam preparation was rewarding, especially when students were able to develop well-informed and reasoned opinions on complex topics. What I found most fulfilling was creating a collaborative learning environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and discussing ideas. Legal Studies and Political Science often involve nuanced topics that require critical thought, and fostering an atmosphere of open dialogue made learning more meaningful.
