Do private colleges like (BITS, SRM, VIT, MANIPAL) accept students who have secured a good rank in the engineering entrance exam but have given their class 12 exams from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and not from CBSE?

No it is not necessary for you to have CBSE background.More or less all engineering entrance exams need the students to have 60% in physics ,chemistry and maths in class 12 board exam and must have these subjects as part of the school curriculum for class 11 and 12.
