What is the usual drumming pattern for the kick and snare drums?

play the kick on beats 1 and 3, and the snare on beats 2 and 4.

Playing kick drums on the 1 and 3 of the bar, and playing the snare on the 2 and 4 is the most used groove/beat in drums. You can add hi hates over it in quarter notes, 8th notes, 16th notes, 8th note triplets and so on, and make the feel of the groove different with each pattern.

One straight pattern can be kick on the 1 and 3, snare on the 2 and 4. Another can be in a 6/8 format with kick on the 1 and snare on the 4.
