Interesting question. They are absolutely two separate genre of musical instruments. While key instruments like organ, piano, harpsichord etc. leverage on scales and harmony, drums leverage more on timing, pattern, resonance and few tones. At the heart of musical ability in a human being there are two basic senses - sense of tone and sense of rhythm. Be it a pianist or a drummer, a miss of tone or time is fatal to the music been played. Phil Collins is a fine example of being a great drummer, and an equally good pianist. My favorite multi instrument player is Mike Oldfield. Try and get a copy of his famous concert 'Tubular Bells'. read less

Can i hire drum kits?
Sure! Just enquire around. However, if you intend to hire for learning/practice it may not prove economical. For learning you should join an Institute who are liberal with giving practice facility free of charge or on nominal charges.
