Different drums Notes on a drum staff usually indicate different drums, such as the snare, bass, kick, tom, or cymbal. Pitch The pitch of a drum depends on the tightness of its skin and the amount of air inside it. Tight skin produces a high note, while slack skin produces a low note. More air in the drum also produces a lower note. Tuning Drums don't usually need to be tuned to specific pitches, but they should be tuned to produce clear, full tones. Proper tuning can make even a beginner drum kit sound great. read less
