For beginners it's definitely good way to copy and draw with consistent practice one understands her/his own style of art.

Copying or tracing in order to learn portrait artwork is a best way to learn the proportiioning of the facial features. But also keep in mind to try doing it freehand skecthes too, which helps you to draw and calcualte the dimensions faster!
