Firstly we determine no. of hybrid orbitals by this formula H=1/2(v+m-c+a) where,v-total no of valence electron on central atom,m-total no of surrounding monovalent atoms , c-charge of cation,a-charge of anion. For PCl5,H=1/2(5+5-0+0)=5,sp3d hybridization and shape trigonal bipyramidal and for IF5 H=1/2(7+5-0+0)=6,sp3d2 hybridization and shape square pyramidal.
