IdentityI am Dr Rashi Jain. I am an immunologist by training, a geriatric scientist by profession; and a teacher by passion. I believe teaching is a conversation, not a one-way transfer of information from teacher to student. A teacher may possess knowledge, but it is through meaningful dialogue with students that knowledge is transformed into understanding.
For me, effective teaching is not about making students learn by just listening, but about enabling them to visualise concepts through listening. When students can see ideas come alive in their minds, learning becomes meaningful, engaging, and lasting. As Richard Feynman once said, “If you find science boring, you are learning it from the wrong teacher.” I strongly resonate with this view. Every subject is beautiful in its own way, and it is the teacher’s responsibility to bring out that beauty for learners.
If one can inspire a mind to think, then one is truly a teacher. Teaching is not simply what you know; it is what you help someone else to know, while at the same time becoming a better learner yourself. My aim for my students is not to teach them their curriculum, but to teach them curiosity. I encourage students to question, reflect, and connect concepts to real-world contexts. This makes the learning an active process where both students and teachers grow together.
