Overview

I have about 11 years of total work experience including 5 years of working in the IT industry as a Java Application Developer. I've worked at some top Software MNCs like Mastek and J.P. Morgan Chase, Mumbai.
I am currently freelancing as a Web and Mobile Apps developer for clients across US, UK, and Australia. I used to take Corporate Trainings too, when I was in Mumbai, but I've moved to Dehradun now and focus more on my freelancing work.
I love sharing my hands-on knowledge on all the latest Java and Java-related web and mobile technologies with people passionate about making a career in IT. I help out a lot of people on developer communities like StackOverflow as well whenever I get the time.

"Why is Linux the most secure OS?" in   IT Courses/Linux, IT Courses/Linux/Linux Administration, IT Courses/Linux/Linux Basics

Because not many people are using it!

This may not sound respectful but it's true. Windows has borne the major brunt of 0-day exploits, viruses, trojans, adware and other malware because it has enjoyed a near monopoly in the desktop space. The more the number of users, the more money there is in exploiting the platform.

Just look at the mobile space to get what I'm saying. There are more exploits available for iOS and Android (which is a flavor of Linux for mobiles) than Windows phone; why? Because, not many people are using it!

So many answers here suggest that there's not much need for a degree but the sad truth of our IT industry is that you won't be eligible for half the interviews if you don't have a degree or it's equivalent like MCA.

If you have time or money constraints, please try to gain an IT certification at least to add some weight to your CV. Recruiters would be more inclined to ignore your lack of degree if you've scored in high 90s in an industry-standard certification like OCA/OCP 7/8 for Java.

"Is Java harder to learn than Python?" in   IT Courses/Programming Languages/Python

No, Java isn't necessarily harder to learn, it's just that Python is too simple to get started. This simplicity could, however, come in your way when learning Java later on because you would find its syntax very verbose after coding in Python. But, we have IDEs (like Eclipse, IntelliJ, NetBeans) that can automatically generate a lot of rudimentary code to help you be more productive in Java.

"Can finally block be used without try block?" in   IT Courses/Java

No. A try block must always be present with either catch or finally or both.

"What happens if an exception occurs in catch block?" in   IT Courses/Java

The same exception semantics apply. If the exception is checked, you must either handle it inside the catch block with another try-catch or declare it using the method's throws clause. The finally block will still complete; even if a runtime exception was thrown.
