As per researchers, data scientists are one amongst the highest paying professionals in India. But, is it easy to become a data scientist? The answer differs from person to person. However, the job of a data scientist is to clean data, analyze data for new insights, collect data from disparate sources, uncover data-analytics problems, validate data and more. Thus, it required certain skills to become a successful data scientist.
Some of the skills include attention to detail, programming skills, in-depth knowledge of calculus & Linear algebra and good in statistics. You also need to have data wrangling, machine learning and data visualization skills.
Regarding becoming a data scientist, it is advantageous to have a mathematics background. It is also considered an advantage to have a degree in finance, computer studies, statistics, economics and business studies, statistics. As per a report, roughly 50% of data scientists hold a Master’s degree in India, whereas 34% are Bachelor’s degree holders. Just about 6% hold a PhD.
