Will I be bad at pole dancing if I can't dance? I’ve got a good sense of rhythm but have never been able to ‘loosen up’ in order to dance well

No both of these things are not correlated. Even if you aren't able to dance properly, still it doesn't mean that you will not be able to perform and dance style well. It may be possible that you have some amazingly hidden skills for a different dance form than the one which you were trying to pursue....

It may be possible that you have some amazingly hidden skills for a different dance form than the one which you were trying to pursue. So if you want to pursue pole dance, don't be shy and don't doubt yourself. Just go with the flow and start with the basics, with practice and patience you'll definitely do well. read less
