Java achieves platform independence through its compilation and execution processes. When Java source code is compiled, it's translated into an intermediate bytecode rather than native machine code. This bytecode is not specific to any particular hardware or operating system. Upon execution, this bytecode is interpreted by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which is platform-dependent and unique to each system. The JVM translates the bytecode into machine code suitable for the specific underlying system, enabling the Java application to run seamlessly on diverse platforms without modification to the source code. The JVM acts as an abstraction layer, shielding the Java program from the underlying hardware and operating system intricacies. This allows developers to write code once and deploy it on any system equipped with a compatible JVM. Consequently, whether a program runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, or any other platform supporting Java, as long as a JVM tailored for that platform exists, the bytecode can be executed, ensuring Java's "write once, run anywhere" capability and platform independence. read less
