Hi Akshay there are a lot of complicated mechanisms but I am guessing you are curious about the one used in automobiles. That's a slider crank mechanism. The piston which is inside a combustion chamber moves up and down and a rod from the piston connects to the crank and makes it rotate. Just search for images on Google and you will immediately understand what I am saying. Also look up something called the crank rocker mechanism. These things can be inverted to convert circular motion to linear motion. That's exactly what is used in your car's steering wheel. Happy learning and keep questioning.
