Respected tutors! I asked a question some time ago.My goal of asking question ,even after myself being a tutor, is to get clear with not so intuitive concepts, which i find intriguing. Q.What is the change in kinetic energy(ies) of body(ies) after collision of 2 moving bodies; you can take inelastic or elastic collision. 1- Remains same 2-Decreases 3-increases 4-any other possibilty All answers with 'decrease' options are correct, either elastic or inelastic collision. you can take any example and check. Q.Just think can KE be zero after collision? - this time its a bit more intuitive. Thanks.

it should remains same.. but if friction is taken into consideration then decreases would be the right option.

if any iron piece collide to magnet then the ke may be zero. or if a stone collide with a heap of mud or soil then also ke may be zero

The game of darts is an example for the stated scenario. The dart gets stuck on the board and thus the final K.E becomes 0 after collision.

Teacher is my Guru

in case of inelastic, KE can be zero but for elastic the rate of decrease of KE shall be constant.

Therefore the total kinetic energy of the two bodies remain same both before and after an elastic collision. (2) In the case of inelastic collision also, there is no violation of conservation of energy. However, apart from the energy exchange taking place between the bodies colliding, there is exchange of heat between other objects or some energy is dissipated as heat and sound produced. (3) It is not clear from your questions as to whether you are referring to the total kinetic energy of the two particles or to the kinetic energy of a single body involved in the process. So, forward the question after re framing it. read less
