Light behaves as a particle or as a wave , known as dual nature of light. that is some phenomena involving light can be explained using ray optics and some other phenomena are explained considering light as a wave. The subject dealing with phenomena explained by wave nature of light is wave optics.

Wave optics, is the branch of optics ( a part of physics) which studies interference, diffraction, polarization. Here the light is considered as a wave & not as a particle. Wave theory is applied here & not particle theory of light
