Take, (a-b)^2=a^2-2ab+b^2 we know that a^2+b^2=52 and ab=24 Substituting in the above equation, we get (a-b)^2=52-2*24 (a-b)^2=4 or (a-b)=sqrt of 4 Hence, (a-b) = 2

(a-b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab substitute the values, find the result and then take square root of d resultant; this will give d value of (a-b)

(a-b)^2= a^2 + b^2 - 2ab (a-b)^2= 52- 48 (a-b)^2= 4 take square root (a-b) = 2

Exponent are also called power or indices. the exponent of the number says how many times to use the number in the multiplication.

For a student it’s very important to understand what information is already provided and how brilliantly they can make use of available information to solve any query. In the question, we have two values given which are: a^2+b^2 = 52 and; ab=24, from this we can calculate twice of ‘ab’ that is: 2ab=48 after doing this, we know that there are two formulas where these values can be used: The first formula is: (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2 and the second formula is : (a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 As the question is requesting the value of (a-b), we are going with second formula. Now we are putting all the available values we have as below: (a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 –> this can be written as (a-b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab –> notice, we have kept a^2 + b^2 together (this will not make any changes in the result) (a-b)^2 = 52 – 48 ->remember the values gives in the question (a-b)^2 = 4 (a-b) = sqrt(4) -> this is square root of 4, which is 2 so; (a-b) = 2 (is the answer) read less
