Why is the number 1 not considered a prime number?

A prime number is that whose factors do not exists. As any number can be multiplied by 1, so 1 is a factor for that number. In other words, if 1 is considered as prime number, then no number can be called as prime number.

We can say that prime numbers are the building numbers for composite numbers.we can break down composite numbers inter factors of prime number where as we cannot do so in the case of number 1 hence it is said that it not composite nor prime
