Lighting Fast Way To Find Square Of A Number

Debraj Paul

To find squares of numbers near to bases i.e numbers near to 10/100/1000.. we can use Yavadunam Tavadunikritya Varganca Yojayet.
Rule: whatever the deficiency from the base, subtract that deficit from the number and write alongside the square of the deficit.
eg: 9 * 9
We have base 10. So deficit 1.
Number - deficit = 9 - 1= 8
Square of deficit = 1 * 1 = 1
8|1 ans.81

eg: 96 * 96
Base is 100; deficit 4
96 - 4|4 * 4 = 92|16 ans. 9216

eg: 9988 * 9988
Base 10000; deficit 12
9988 - 12|12*12= 9976|144
As we have 4 zeroes on our base but only 3 digits on RHS, we add a zero there
So ans. 99760144

Note: In the case of slightly larger numbers than the base, add the surplus and follow the same steps..
eg: 13 * 13 = 13 + 3|3 * 3 = 16|9 ans. 169.
