The earthing pin is bigger and longer also because, 1. Every electrical elements have some storing elements (i.e-capacitor). It might happen that when you remove the socket from electrical board, there may be some electrical energy stored in the device. next time when you again insert the socket this may cause a short circuit. SO the earth pin is made longer than other because it will come in contact before the other two pins and if there is any residual electrical energy left in the appliance it will tranfer it to the ground. 2. If the live wire comes in contact with the conducting body of the appliances it can damage other parts or can give a shock. It is bigger than the other two to dissipate the charge to ground faster . I think this will clear your doubt. read less

Earthing pin resistance would be lower than remaining two as resistance is inversely proportional to diameter of the conductor . So it is made bigger than other two. Better the earthing equipment gets (lower resistance) more the equipment is same for the user.

First common sense. 1 To differentiate between the live terminals and the the earth terminals . 2. It is bigger than other because by mistake we try to plugin it into the other sockets like live . Now the logical approach 1. The diameter of cross section is bigger lesser the resistance this principle works when by mistake currents are leaking to it and without hindrance the current can flow in earth terminal. 2. One reason is that it is bigger and wider so that before other terminals can make a circuit with their respective heads sockets the earth terminal make its circuit with earth so that in case of failure of live terminal it can prevent form sock and the short circuits Have a nice day. So any live wire cannot be connected to the body of the equipment. read less
