There are three basic types of mirrors - the flat, the convex and the concave mirrors. The flat one is the one that we use to look at ourselves, in our homes etc. Imagine a large bowl as a mirror. Now we can assume that the outer curved portion of the bowl acts as a convex mirror and the inner portion of the bowl as a concave mirror. If you stand between the focal point and the pole of the mirror, then the nature of the image formed is virtual, erect and magnified. These kinds of mirrors are a little thicker, and they bend light towards you. When you move towards the centre of the mirror, the object appears enlarged, and when you move further away from the centre, you'll notice a diminished image. A person who is shaving keeps his face closer to the centre of the mirror, that is between the pole and the focal point. Hence, it appears enlarged. This is the reason why concave mirrors are used as shaving and makeup mirrors. read less

The position of the image formed will be behind the mirror, ie we can see it inside the mirror and all other imnages are formed in front of the mirror. read less
