Hi Shyam, The term thrust is typically used in case of liquids. Lets take the example of a cricket bat placed vertically upright on the pitch. The force that the bat exerts on the ground will always be equal to the weight of the bat. However, in case of fluids it will be different. Let us say the bat is placed on water, then the force that the bat will exert on water will depend on the density of the liquid. In the case of solids, the force acting per unit area is called stress and in the case of fluids the thrust acting on unit area is called pressure. To summarise, thrust is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of something. read less
