Actually the absence of earthing does not lead to short circuiting, rather it prevents from electrical shocks arising due to electric short circuiting, if there is a current leakage due to a fail insulation, then the earthing provides and easy path for the electricity to flow down to earth. this is why the appliances which draw heavy current or are have a metal body have three pin plugs, the larger and thicker pin is for earthing, so in the event of current leak, the current will move down through earthing to the earth and the person handling the appliance is safe from electric shock (because electricity flows towards (through conductors) having low resistance) read less

If there in no earthing (or earth wire) in the electrical circuit of the house, the house will be more vulnerable to electric shocks that may be caused due to short circuits or natural calamities like thunder and lightning.
