Scalar quantities have only magnitude and no direction. Example: speed Vector quantities have both magnitude and direction. Example:velocity For speed, say, 40 kmph is enough information. But, for velocity, we need to specify the direction as well, like, 40 kmph towards east.

The quantities that have only magnitude are scalars. Example, mass, voltage. And that have both magnitude and direction are vectors. Example, weight, charge. A train from Chennai(A) to Mangalore(B) at a speed of 150km/hr is denoted as AB(vector)=150i and the return journey at the speed of 120km/hr is...

Here i is the direction, the journey from Chennai to Mangalore. read less

Scalars are quantities having magnitude only. eg 3 km Vectors are quantities having both magnitude(value) and direction eg: 3 km towards north

Scalar Quantities have magnitude and Vector quantities have both magnitude and Direction . Scalar quantities are Mass , Volume and Vector quantities are Speed , Velocity , Displacement etc
Comments

scalar quantity has only magnitude but not the direction, whereas vector quantity has both magnitude and direction. The direction in vector quantity is denoted by an arrow above notation. Magnitude is indicated by the units
