like the light ( electromagnetic) waves reflects from plain surfaces, so do sound waves. The reflected sound waves travel slower than the light waves. The source of sound coming from close to the detector ( ears) is recognised earlier than the reflected sound bouncing off ( reflecting) from distant barriers, causing the ears to hear the same sound again. This phenomenon of hearing the reflected sound again is called an ECHO. read less
