The isotope of hydrogen which contains one proton and one neutron is deuterium (D). Thus, when dideuterium reacts with dioxygen, deuterium oxide, i.e., heavy water is produced. The reactivity of H2 and D2 towards oxygen will be different. Since the D – D bond is stronger than H - H bond, therefore,...

Specialist in Chemistry.

It forms heavy water D2O reactivity is different from the water as it is less reactive than water due to strong D-D bond strength as compare to H-H bond strength.

2D2 +O2 -----> 2D2O(Deuterium oxide) No the reactivity of both oxides would not be the same because dideuterium is more stable compared to dihydrogen molecule.
