Assuming PQ is parallel to BC and assuming the triangle is a right angle triangle with right angle at B. The problem can be solved by equating the area of the triangles.

AREA(APQ)/AREA(BPQC)=1/1 =>Area(APQ)/Area(ABC)=1/2 =>Side in ratio of =1:√2( let AP:AB) SIDE THAT REQUIRED IS=(√2-1):2 ans.
