Yes, learning from a trainer will give you more understanding about the dance style. You may be a good dancer by practice, but when we learn from a proper institute, we get to learn and unlearn many nuances that we miss out.

Everyone is nervous and shy going into a dance class because putting yourself out there is difficult but dance actually helps develop confidence and you WILL feel relaxed in no time no matter how shy.
