no body invented carnatic music but it should be during british time where they labelled the south indian traditional style of music as carnatic music. On te oter hand the word carnatic sould have been originated from the word karnatakam or old or streotrype .May be a translator from early british time should have said what the perfomers explained and the britishers must have misunderstood and named karnatic music.

Time and tide changes everything. It is like temple, one goes there for worship and if one looks at it is boring to a small child who is forced by his/her parents to come to a temple and worship and will be interested from outside the English songs and some hindi songs. The source is neither carnatic, nor indhusthani or western but something predated which is all one source dispersed settled with new names. Music is one but the music style gives you a identity. Carnatic music is our idenity and we are all proud of it. In short, it is always evergreen on the other side and a child who are default into the tradition of carnatic music see other music evergreen and move out of it thinking it is more beautiful.
