I am Sahana Muthuswamy, and I specialize in teaching Bharatanatyam and Carnatic vocal music to students of all age groups and skill levels. With 13 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of guiding beginners as well as advanced learners in their artistic journey. For me, teaching is not just about imparting techniques but about nurturing discipline, creativity, confidence, and a deep appreciation for India's rich cultural heritage through the performing arts.

I hold Master's degrees in both Bharatanatyam and Music, which have given me a strong academic and practical foundation in these classical art forms. One of the most significant milestones in my artistic journey has been receiving advanced training under the legendary Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Learning under her guidance has profoundly influenced my understanding of Bharatanatyam, enriching both my performance style and my approach to teaching with authenticity, discipline, and respect for tradition.

Over the years, I have performed in numerous dance competitions, cultural events, temple performances, and stage productions. These experiences have helped me grow as a performer while deepening my understanding of stage presentation, artistic expression, and audience engagement. I enjoy sharing these valuable insights with my students so that they not only master the technical aspects of Bharatanatyam and vocal music but also develop the confidence to perform gracefully on stage.

My teaching experience includes working for one year at an international school, conducting successful home-based classes for more than six years, and teaching students extensively through online platforms. I have trained learners from diverse backgrounds, ranging from young children taking their first dance steps to adults pursuing Bharatanatyam or vocal music out of passion. I believe every student has unique strengths, and I adapt my teaching methods to suit their pace, abilities, and learning goals while maintaining high artistic standards.

My teaching methodology focuses on building strong fundamentals, including correct posture, rhythm, footwork, mudras, expressions (abhinaya), and basic theoretical knowledge. Along with technical training, I emphasize understanding the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of Bharatanatyam so that students develop a deeper connection with the art form. My classes are interactive, structured, and encouraging, allowing students to learn with confidence while steadily improving their skills through regular practice and constructive feedback.

I offer both online and offline classes, making it convenient for students to pursue their artistic aspirations from anywhere. My objective is to create a supportive learning environment where students not only achieve technical excellence but also develop discipline, stage confidence, and a lifelong love for Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music. I take great pride in helping every learner grow into a confident performer while preserving the authenticity and timeless beauty of these classical traditions.
