Chandhini S.

Namaskaram! I’m S. Chandhini, a Chennai-based Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, and the founder of Uvagai Arts, where I teach and share my passion for Indian classical dance.

I have completed my M.A. in Natya (Performing Arts) from Dr. M.G.R. Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women and hold a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Madras. I am a disciple of Dr. Sujatha Mohan and Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, and I continue to deepen my understanding of Bharatanatyam through dedicated learning and practice.

My motivation as a teacher stems from my belief that Bharatanatyam is much more than learning movements and perfecting technique. I believe in a holistic approach to the art form, where students explore its physical, emotional, intellectual, cultural, and philosophical dimensions.

My aim is to help students discover how Bharatanatyam can enrich various aspects of their lives by nurturing discipline, coordination, rhythm, body awareness, creativity, self-confidence, emotional expression, and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

My classes focus on building a strong foundation in adavus, rhythm, body awareness, and expression, while encouraging students to appreciate the richness of Natya. I strive to create a joyful, safe, and encouraging learning environment where every student feels comfortable exploring their abilities and progressing at their own pace.

Drawing from my background in psychology and my ongoing training as a Dance Movement Therapy facilitator through CMTAI, I am particularly interested in the relationship between movement, self-expression, and personal growth.

Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps into Bharatanatyam or an experienced student looking to deepen your practice, I would be delighted to guide you on your journey.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students experience Bharatanatyam as a meaningful part of their lives—a practice through which they can learn, grow, express themselves, and become the best versions of themselves.
