Method of learning. They do not learn too many things but whatever they learn they learn it with good conceptual understanding. In all my 24 years of tutoring experience especially in the last seven year of CAT coaching, what I observed is our students never focus the question. Means that they do not have patience to read the question in full especially when it comes to Quant. Absolutely they do not have the habit of active reading. For example a student of mine is reading a line "At atmospheric pressure, air and other gases are poor conductors of electricity. this is because, they do not have free charged particles". When I asked what is meant by free charged particles, a student in chennai is not able to tell, while for the same line my US online student-Pranav answered in a second. Another example, you can try with most of your students (either preparing for CAT, GMAT or even plus 2) : "A tea stall purchased milk worth of Rs.100 @ Rs. 10 per litre. If the stall consumes milk worth of Rs. 2 and paise 50 in 45 minutes in how many hours entire milk would have got consumed". Find out how many of those answers this question correctly in the first instance and also check how much time they literally take to answer this question correctly. Fundamental Difference - we are not good listeners and we do not do active reading according to my experience. read less

Another thing that you will definitely need if you clear the written and called for an interview is : Critical Thinking Skills - this is a learned skill and not instinctive to humans. read less

Forget about profile. Just try getting as high a percentile as possible in CAT. Written +GD/PI/WAT form the major chunk of the selection process in any top b school.
