What is the reason for Carnatic music's popularity in South India?

Mainly Carnatic Music....if you take....it dwelled more in South India than in the North. The Great Sahitya Karthas of Carnatic Music more belonged to South India than the North. Take Purandaradasa....Considered as the SANGEETHA PITA MAHA was from Karnataka.......ANNAMACHARYA....was from Andhra Pradesh....THE MUSIC TRINITIES - SADGURU THYAGARAJA, MUTHUSWAMI DHIKSHITAT & SYAMA SASTRI....all lived in Tiruvarur / Thanjavur areas of Tamilnadu although they were of Telugu Lienage....and a host of other Vaageyakars also lived and practised Carnatic Music in South India mor than the North. The Composers of Carnatic music such as Saint Tyagaraja, Purandaradasa, Muthuswamy Dikshitar,etc. were all from Southern states of India and therefore their compositions were eventually spread over to generations through their disciples and followers just like North Indian Sangeet Gharanas.
