What is the difference between Chinese calligraphy and Western calligraphy?

Western calligraphy mostly required a flat-edged pen to achieve the result while the Chinese used a flexible hair brush. Because the writing utensil was different, the outcome varied also. For example, a stroke from a pen was lighter than a stroke from a brush dipped in ink.
