My C++ teacher, who seems crazy old school, won't let us use the string datatype in C++, but instead makes us use the character array datatype from C. He says the strings in C++ are "just not good". Is there any truth to what he is saying?

C++ Tutor; Make it easy.

"just not good" is "not a good" answer. Please ask him in what ways it is bad. He may not be comfortable with strings as they are added recently in C++ which was part of STL.

There is alot of overhead when using the String class. And one should know how to wrtie his/her own libraries that do the same functionality of the String class before using it.
