String is specially designed for string operations and If you create char arrays basically you are creating a memory to store string. It means both are same, only difference is handling. Yes it is true that if you use string then it must prevent buffer overflow. It does not mean that you can can not do this with char array. You can also do the same with char array but using dynamic memory allocation and same thing is handled in string internally. read less

yes, string is good option. it takes for mem allocation. you can always get the reference to char array behind the string class through getbuffer functions
