edx.org has some really good courses for the begginners to pick up anything new. There is a bunch of data science tutorials which you can start with.....

To become a data scientist, you can do course on data science through edx or coursera. If you want certificate, you have to pay the fee otherwise you can audit the course free of cost.

Many courses in BTech/MCA/MTech are now including these topics. If you want to study independently, then I will suggest going through internet based courses. Andrew Ng has a basic course on machine learning available in coursera. SentDex on YouTube has a Python based machine learning course. You can study these courses to gain some decent ideas in this field. read less
