With a comprehensive background in teaching mathematics following the California
Common Core Curriculum to middle and High school students in California public schools,
USA, and a deep understanding of social-emotional learning and culturally responsive
teaching, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the academic success and
holistic development of students at your institution.
In my most recent teaching position as a 6th-grade Math and Science Teacher at Newark
Middle School in Newark, California, I worked with students from diverse backgrounds,
including racial, cultural, geographical, and economic differences. I ensured that students
met the standards as outlined in the Common Core curriculum. Additionally, along with
teaching math, I took teaching Science as an opportunity to experience and show students
the close connection between math and science.
During my student teaching at John. F. Kennedy High School in Fremont, California, I
worked with students of all skill levels, ranging from Honors to remedial classes. I taught
Geometry Honors to 9th-grade students during the first semester and remedial Geometry to
10th - to 12th-grade students for the second semester. Out of my interest, I also taught a
9th-grade CC3 and Algebra 1 remedial class to understand various classroom management
techniques and teaching methodologies to support these students in their successful course
completion. Moreover, this experience provided me with an opportunity to differentiate
instructions to English Learners and students with an Individualized Education Plan.
I believe in creating inclusive and engaging learning environments that meet the diverse
needs of every student. Through differentiated instruction, innovative teaching
methods, and personalized support, I strive to inspire a love for mathematics while
helping students build confidence and achieve their full potential.
My commitment to social-emotional learning is reflected in my teaching approach. I
prioritize building positive relationships with students, fostering a sense of belonging, and
promoting resilience and emotional intelligence. I incorporate SEL principles into daily
lessons to develop students’ self-awareness, social skills, and decision-making abilities,
preparing them to succeed both socially and academically.
Furthermore, I recognize the importance of culturally-responsive teaching in ensuring
equitable access to education and honoring students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences.
By incorporating culturally relevant content, perspectives, and teaching practices, I create a
culturally affirming classroom environment where every student feels valued, respected, and
empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.
My prior experience as a substitute (guest) teacher, instructional paraeducator (aide),
and as a volunteer teacher has equipped me with a deep understanding of educational
goals.
Additionally, my background in information technology as a software engineer enhances
my ability to integrate technology seamlessly into instruction, creating interactive and
dynamic learning experiences for students. In my last teaching position, I seamlessly
integrated technology in the classroom by using an iPad to deliver instruction, Google
Classroom to post assignments, and other classroom updates. Furthermore, I encouraged
students to use technology by assigning homework online through various platforms,
including Big Ideas, Blooket, Gimkit, Canva, and Google Suite applications.
Overall, I am excited about the opportunity to bring my passion for teaching, expertise in
math education, and commitment to social-emotional learning and cultural responsiveness
to this prestigious educational institution.
