As a biologist and a teacher my main responsibility is to ensure that students understand the foundational concepts in biology (Genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology), with this the the problem solving strategies of students can be improved. I would encourage the students to work collaboratively and I will develop teaching strategies where I will try to reduce the anxiety in students in learning a new concept or challenge. I want my students to leave my classroom with basic biological skills that enable them to engage these concepts and skills making well considered choices.
As part of my MPhil work I worked on Recombinant expression of A?42 in E.coli and its subsequent purification, biochemical characterization studies to monitor A?42 oligomerization and studies to determine the effect of anti MAPYYR antibodies on destabilization of preformed A? fibrils in vitro using fluorescence spectroscopy with thioflavin T.
My PhD research work is mainly focussed on obesity and type 2 diabetes as risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). I always start my research approach with a complex yet relevant idea. A second review of answers/discussions demonstrate how the debate proceeds with changed ideas and allows me to correct misconceptions and assess their understanding of basic answers related to the topic. This is the beauty of science by considering both the pros and cons of a particular idea and working on it.
